Underestimating the level of asbestos in the Currong Public Housing demolition project by one of our competitors has seen costs blow out to more than double the original contract price for a second time.
Greencap were engaged on this project over 14 months ago to review and investigate the original report for the site. Asbestos found embedded in the concrete walls throughout the site was not considered in an early 2015 report. This is now causing a major headache for ACT Government as demolition costs escalate from a revised $6.25 million price tag (originally $3 million) to an expected $14 million.
A timely reminder of the importance of conducting an in-depth survey at the start of a project which can save our clients significant time / money in the long run.
